Liming enzyme (dehairing enzyme) is a blend of alkaline protease, lipase and other enzyme preparations that are designed to remove dirt and pigments while fully loosening the collagen fibers and accelerating the deharing process.

Working Principle

The purpose of dehairing is to remove the epidermis and hair that are useless for leather-making, dissolve part of the inter-fibrillar subtances, saponify some of the sebum, and continue the swelling and hydration of the hide proteins that have already been swollen and hydrated during the soaking stage, thus preparing the hide for the subsequent stages of leather manufacturing, both chemically and physically.

The dehairing enzyme efficiently breaks down substances around the hair follicles of raw hides, as well as materials connecting the epidermis and dermis, such as mucoproteins. It weakens the bond between the hair, epidermis, and dermis, loosening the hair roots and facilitating deharing. Additionally, using this enzyme can reduce the use of sulfides during the dehairing stage and specifically remove proteoglycans (such as chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans and other inter-fibrillar components) from the dermis. This enhances the loosening effect of collagen fibers without damaging them.

Usage Instructions

The dehairing enzyme is primarily used during the leather dehairing process and can also be used in combination with other auxiliaries. The dosage varies depending on the raw hide and intended application. We recommend conducting small-scale tests under the same production environment before proceeding to full-scale production. This helps prevent damage to the hides caused by excessive use or variations in the process. Special care should be taken when dealing with lower-quality leather, ensuring the handling process and time are carefully controlled.

Precautions

Enzymes are protein-based substances. For sensitive individuals, inhalation of enzyme powder or droplets may case allergic reactions. Prolonged exposure may irritate the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It is recommended to wear a face mask during operation. If the product accidentally splashes onto the skin or eyes, rinse immediately with clean water.

As a bioactive substance, the enzyme may deactivate under high temperature, strong acids, or strong alkalis. Therefore, avoid direct sunlight during transportation and storage. And After opening, reseal tightly to prevent enzyme deactivation. Keep in a clean, cool, and dry warehouse.
