Leather Softening Enzyme – A Multi-Enzyme Blend for Enhanced Leather Softness and Fullness
Product Description
Leather softening enzyme is a blend of enzyme preparations, including alkaline protease, acidic protease, lipase, amylase, and cellulase. Leather softening enzyme can effectively enhance the softness, fullness, and elasticity of leather while also improving leather yield.
Working Principle
Softening is a critical step in leather processing, as its quality directly affects the elasticity, fullness, and hand feel of the finished leather.
During softening, substances such as hair roots, grease, dirt, and degradation products—both on the surface and within the hide—must be removed, along with non-fibrin proteins and certain collagen breakdown products. This step facilitates the penetration and binding of subsequent tanning agents and other chemicals, ensuring the softness and fullness of the final product.
Additionally, softening further eliminates inter-fibrillary proteins and fiber matrix components, promoting the dispersion of collagen fibers to enhance the leather's extensibility, grain smoothness, and softness.
Leather softening enzymes effectively remove dirt, mucins, and other fiber matrix materials, gently yet efficiently opening up the fiber structure to prepare the leather for subsequent processing.
Usage Instructions
The diversity of leather types and their origins, along with differences in local production and processing conditions, can influence the effectiveness of leather softening enzymes. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct small-scale trials under the same production environment prior to full-scale application. This helps prevent damage to the hides caused by excessive use or unsuitable processing conditions. Special attention should be paid to lower-grade leather, where processing methods and time must be carefully controlled.
Precautions
Enzymes are protein-based substances. For sensitive individuals, inhalation of enzyme powder or droplets may case allergic reactions. Prolonged exposure may irritate the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It is recommended to wear a face mask during operation. If the product accidentally splashes onto the skin or eyes, rinse immediately with clean water.
Package and Storage
Package Options: 25kg plastic drums or 1000kg IBC tanks or customized.
As a bioactive substance, the enzyme may deactivate under high temperature, strong acids, or strong alkalis. Therefore, avoid direct sunlight during transportation and storage. And After opening, reseal tightly to prevent enzyme deactivation. Keep in a clean, cool, and dry warehouse.
